Welcome to the thorneyverse!

(alternate title: The Crockpot, because I sure did set it and forget it)

Hello, Magnus Thorne here!

Thank you for subscribing to this newsletter. I suppose I’ve put off having one for long enough and to be honest, I didn’t think I’d have much to say this first go-around. Hope y’all are ready for some yapping.

A quick heads up before we get into it: I now have a fancy professional website address — thorneyverse.com — which only redirects to my carrd right now, but look for some exciting website news in the future. :)

Never Met a Devil Like You release

In case you missed it, I released a new novella on October 30 called Never Met a Devil Like You. You can grab it free on itchio for a limited time! After which, I’ll be putting it on Kindle Unlimited.

To everyone who picked this up (and those of you who allow me to disrupt your TBR with my chaotic release schedule) — THANK YOU. As of writing this, it’s been downloaded over 300 times on itchio and all the reactions and memes for this tendernasty love story have been overwhelming in the best way. I adore you all so much. 💜

Dead Cowpokes Don’t Wrangle

Also in case you missed it, I’m getting published in an anthology!

Dead Cowpokes Don’t Wrangle is an upcoming queer weird west anthology from CLC Press. It was fully-funded on Kickstarter in July 2024 and all stretch goals were unlocked, including an audiobook narrated by the fantastic Richard Pendragon.

I’m not only honored to be a part of this anthology and in such wonderful company, but I’m formatting the interior as well! It’s been super rewarding to help bring this eclectic collection to fruition.

For those who didn’t have a chance to back the Kickstarter, paperback and ebook copies will be available for purchase in December. Follow CLC Press on Instagram for updates!

Paperback update

Everyone has been incredibly patient regarding the paperback release for Vice+Virtue, and you have my deepest appreciation. As I’ve mentioned on socials, I did not anticipate for edits to take this long after the cover art was finished. As things currently stand, the paperback is still on track to be ready by early December.

That said, the interest form for signed copies is still open! This is so I can accurately guesstimate how many copies I need to order to sign and ship, and does not require any pre-payment. The actual sale page will be listed through itchio and will require an itchio login to purchase.

Due to the anticipated time and effort to prepare signed copies, I ask that you please sign up via the interest form if you wish you receive one. Once the final proofs have been submitted, I’ll be reaching out to those who signed up to confirm interest and eventually directing you to the itchio page to make your purchase.

If you change your mind for whatever reason, that’s perfectly fine, just please let me know! If you need to confirm whether you’ve already signed up, you’re welcome to DM me on Instagram or shoot me a note at [email protected].

Another important thing to note: since the Vice+Virtue paperback will be combining Black Cloud and White Smoke into one publication, there will be a new ebook to match. Once that’s live, Black Cloud and White Smoke will be delisted as separate publications. Anyone who has purchased both Black Cloud and White Smoke as separate ebooks may message me with proof of purchase for a free copy of Vice+Virtue.

I’m also still planning on paperbacks for The Lion’s Hunt, but those will likely come early 2025.

What I can say with my full chest is that since I’ve gotten my bearings with paperbacks in general (formatting, covers, editing, etc), I don’t expect any delays of this nature to continue in the future. Again, y’all have been super patient about all this and I can’t express enough how much that means to me. 💜

Surprise reveal?

OKAY, so. I’ve gone back and forth on making any sort of big deal about of this, but I figure if you’re reading this newsletter, you enjoy my work, so maybe you’d want to know where you can read more it!

Magnus Thorne is actually my second self-publishing pen name. Since 2021-ish I’ve been writing queer speculative romance/monster romance under Elle Porter. I know I don’t necessarily owe anyone this information, but it’s kind of a relief to be open about it! Especially since there seems to be more of an audience overlap than I initially anticipated (I suspect it’s the boypussy).

My interests and tastes in regards to writing projects have shifted quite a bit over the last year. I still have a couple WIPs that I intend to publish under Elle, but the majority of my recent effort has gone into Magnus projects because that’s simply where the writing is taking me.

I’m sure it’s no surprise to hear that managing one pen name is a lot of work, let alone two, but at the end of the day, my goal as an author is to write more transmasc characters in the genres I love reading—be it fantasy, dark romance, erotica, etc.

If you’re interested, you can follow me as Elle on Instagram and Bluesky and check out what I’ve published on my site.

What’s coming next

For anyone who’s been following me for a while, you’ve probably noticed I have several WIPs at once and jump between them often. Try as I might to make concrete release plans, it rarely works out as intended.

That said, here’s what I’m hoping to make some headway on in the near(er) future:

INVIOLATE — Erotic horror about a mortician haunted by a shapeshifter, strongly inspired by Claustrophilia by Ezra Blake and Beetlejuice. I’m aiming for this one to be novel-length, which means it’s going to take some time and planning, but I’m excited to sink my teeth into more erotic horror. I have an editor lined up that I’m excited to work with, and I’m definitely planning on doing paperbacks for this one.

THE FOX’S PRICE — The second book in the Concierge series follows Ian, a dominant executive assistant, and Warren, the submissive CFO Ian works for. This book will focus heavily on financial domination and the good ole secret identity trope. The Lion’s Hunt is around 50k and I anticipate The Fox’s Price to be at least that long, if not more, so of course I’m fighting for my life trying not to get lost in the plot.

SAVIOR COMPLEX — This WIP has been on and off the back-burner, but it’ll be my first taboo erotic romance title. It follows two brothers, Ridge and Eric, reconnecting after Ridge is released from a ten-year prison sentence. I’m sure you can figure out where it’s headed, given it’s filed under taboo. :)

CHARCUTERIE This 4k short story available on my itchio will eventually be expanded. The plans for these two is best summarized as, “when you bring home a third and turn your husband into a blood bag (he loves it).” 2025 just might be my erotic horror era…

MONTHLY-ISH SHORTS — Look, I’m having a blast with these, and y’all seem to be enjoying them, too (these itchio tips are TOO KIND!! 🥺). There are so many dynamics and kinks I’m desperate to explore and challenge myself with, alongside the opportunity to revisit established thorneyverse characters. There is no shortage of ideas in the tank, but currently on deck: at least one more Vice+Virtue short; my first foray into omegaverse; and a sapphic married couple + transmasc third, “hey we saw you from across the bar, can I watch you fuck my wife” cuckfest.

Socials

These days I’m most active on Instagram, but you can also follow me on Bluesky. I’m cool with DMs on either platform, but you can reach out to me at [email protected] as well!

New to the thorneyverse?

You can find all of my current publications and where to purchase/read on my website, but here’s a quick guide!

Main series includes Black Cloud (#1) and White Smoke (#2). Dark erotic romance following an addict, a criminal on the run, and a smooth-talking stranger. Once you catch up, check out the bonus short Grey Area that takes place after the main series.

(Note: the Vice+Virtue paperback will combine Black Cloud and White Smoke into one book, with an ebook to match, so you might want to hold off if you haven’t read these yet!)

The Lion’s Hunt (Concierge #1) is a contemporary D/s-verse novella following a submissive sex worker drawn to a surly dominant’s unique desires. High heat, high kink!

A standalone novella in which a hitman gets swept up protecting the younger man who lives next door. Think Léon: The Professional but adult, gay, and trans.

Short Stories

Boys in Skirts, my first erotic duet, is available on itchio, Amazon, and Smashwords. Exactly what it says on the tin.

Keeper of the House & A Peach to Devour are both erotic short stories centering fat women.

For an erotic horror fix, try Charcuterie, Sleep Study, and “Like Flies to Lilies” in Divine Hands. (Just peep those content notes, please!)
