New Year, Same Thorney

HELLO. How’s it going? Did the holidays kick your ass, too? Same. 🤝

In case you missed it, I posted a year-end wrap up on Instagram, but the tl;dr is I wrote over 200k words in 2024, published a handful of stories I’m really proud of, and am overall extremely delighted with how the year shook out!

As mentioned in the wrap-up, I want to keep releasing a free short a month, either bonus stories for existing works or something brand new. Since I’m still getting used to sending out a newsletter to let people know things have happened (plus hard mode: holiday exhaustion), let’s get everyone up to speed!

Cover for Patch Me Up by Magnus Thorne

For December’s short, check out a new foray into taboo trans m/m with Patch Me Up, a 5K trans m/m taboo erotica with brother-based hurt/comfort. Originally a part of an anthology put together by the LGBTQ+ Romance Deals newsletter, you can now download Patch Me Up for free on Itchio!

Cover for Blue Hour: A Vice + Virtue Short by Magnus Thorne

For January’s short, I’m pleased to bring you Blue Hour, a 6k story that takes place in the Vice + Virtue universe. Told from Travis’s POV, Blue Hour explores the horny tension between Gage and Travis touched on in Vice + Virtue and Gray Area. Includes a little bit of angst and lots of tendernasty moments that I think Travis fans will especially enjoy. 🙂 Grab it for free on Itchio!

Cover for Dead Cowpokes Don’t Wrangle: A Weird West Anthology by CLC Press

Dead Cowpokes Don’t Wrangle: A Weird West Anthology is now available to purchase for the general public!

Paperback ($15.99): Amazon

eBook ($5.99): Amazon | Itchio

Audiobook ($10.99): Itchio (narrated by Richard Pendragon)

If you’ve already read and enjoyed this anthology, be on the look out for announcements about future CLC Press projects later this year! 🤠✨

Upcoming

Forced holiday-rest aside, I am still working through editor feedback for The Lion’s Hunt paperback because I want my printed work to be as polished as possible. I appreciate everyone’s patience. 🙏 Moving forward I intend to have paperbacks available from the get-go when it comes to new releases of longer works, as I prefer releases to be DONE-done.

Aside from putting out free monthly short stories and a few short story collections I have in mind, my biggest goal for the first half of 2025 is to buckle down and finalize a draft of one of my longer WIPs, ideally in time for a Spring 2025 release. My WIP goals (as in, novel- or novella-length stories) are more or less the same from previous newsletters and my 2024 wrap-up, with a few surprises! 🤪

UNTITLED BULLY WIP — This WIP grabbed me by the throat in November and hasn’t let go. It’s a story I’ve attempted to write over a couple years about growing up in small towns, stagnated adulthood, and falling hard for the weirdo ex-bully who actually has his shit figured out. Title, cover, and blurb reveal coming soon! Might actually do ARCs for this one. 🙃 (Current WC: 36K | Target WC: 50-60K)

UNTITLED CO-WRITING PROJECT — If you like older transmasc doms with a mean streak (and I’m talking mean), you might like what I’ve been cooking up with Achilles King, a close friend of mine who writes trans m/m erotica and erotic horror. Look for an announcement very soon. 🙂 In the meantime, follow Achilles on Instagram or Bluesky, and check out his work on his site, Smashwords, or Itchio. (Current WC: 23K | Target WC: ~25K)

INVIOLATE — Erotic horror about a mortician haunted by a shapeshifter, strongly inspired by Claustrophilia by Ezra Blake and Beetlejuice. (Current WC: 14K | Target WC: ??)

THE FOX’S PRICE — The second book in the Concierge series follows Ian, a dominant executive assistant, and Warren, the submissive CFO Ian works for. This book will focus heavily on financial domination and the secret identity trope. (Current WC: 25K | Target WC: 50-60K)

THE WOLF’S MENAGERIE — The third book in the Concierge series, details still TBA but know it’ll involve a household polycule of doms and subs and the new guy stuck in the middle. (Currently outlining)

SAVIOR COMPLEX — Follows two brothers, Ridge and Eric, reconnecting after Ridge is released from a ten-year prison sentence. If you enjoyed Patch Me Up, it’s basically more of that vibe (but different characters). 🙂 (Current WC: 11K | Target WC: 25-30K)

Thorney Rec Corner

I’m hoping to catch up on a lot of reading this year. Here’s what I got myself into over the holidays!

How to Survive This Fairytale by S.M. Hallow (pre-order, releasing 1/16/25 from Hedone Books) - I was honored to blurb this amazing book so I’ll let my pretty words do the talking:

Told in second person with gripping, melancholy prose, HOW TO SURVIVE THIS FAIRYTALE takes an adamant approach to autonomy, and self-reclamation in the wake of trauma, abuse, and grief. Perfect for readers who yearn for a darker, queerer spin on fairytale reimaginings and want their happy endings both unexpected and hard-earned.

—Elle Porter, author of Hyacinth

House Trained by Claude Hamesh (Itchio) - Extremely well written (and HORNY) omegaverse age-gap short with pet play, daddy kink, and 💦. Excited to read more mafia omegaverse from Claude!

Touch Me by Hex McKenna (Itchio) - Do you like touch-starved characters exploring intense gender feelings and each others’ bodies? Then run, don’t walk, to pick up this touching (heh) debut short story!

I’m also working my way through Sacrament by expert wordsmith Morgan Dante and enjoying every magnificently crafted paragraph. You can currently pre-order Sacrament at a discount of $0.99!
